The term polari describes the code used by queer
people in 19th century UK to communicate in secret.
It ’s also the lofi folk solo project of Seattle songwriter
Sal Grisafi. Polari grew up on Long Island, NY, where he played in the local emo and post-hardcore scenes before relocating to Brooklyn, where the lived experience of
an authentic queer life influenced a new music
project. The result was 2018’s LP Last One to Leave,
which borrowed from his heavier rock past but also
introduced more soft emotive elements from his
favorite musicians like Ben G ibbard and David Bazan.
